ICON RESIN INFILTRATION IN EDMONDS

WHAT IS ICON RESIN INFILTRATION?

ICON resin infiltration is a minimally invasive treatment used to treat white spot lesions and hypo spots on the teeth which cause the appearance of a white spot on the teeth. White spots can be caused by congenital defects, enamel erosion, excess fluoride, or decay.

They are commonly seen in children who wear braces because it is difficult to thoroughly brush and floss all surfaces of the teeth. The white appearance of the teeth is a result of early tooth decay and if left untreated, will lead to a cavity.

The outer layer of enamel is blocking calcium and other ions from being able to penetrate the teeth, so our Edmonds team will remove the outer layer of the enamel to remove the obstruction and replace it with different material.

HOW IT WORKS: RESIN INFILTRATION PROCEDURE

CONSULTATION

Due to the fact that all white spot lesions are not the same, an examination is completed by our pediatric dentist to see if resin infiltration is the appropriate treatment option.

CLEANING AND PREPARING

The white spot lesion will be cleaned and prepared with pumice and an etchant material. This may be completed multiple times to get the tooth ready to receive the resin infiltration material.

RESIN INFILTRANT

Once the white spot lesion has been cleaned and prepared adequately, the resin infiltration material is applied and cured with a UV light. Multiple coatings of the material may be necessary.

POLISHING

After resin infiltration material has been cured, the tooth will be smoothed and polished with various dental materials.

ICON resin infiltration is non-invasive and completely painless, which is why anesthetic and tooth structure removal is not necessary. This is a very quick and cost-effective procedure that can be completed in a single appointment that ranges from 45 minutes to 1 hour. It is a much more effective, quicker, and less invasive procedure to correct discoloration compared to dental fillings and veneers.

The good news is, this is a long-lasting treatment that can last for 2-6 years and typically does not require repeated application. It can not always completely eliminated white spot lesions or hypoplastic spots on teeth, however, it can significantly improve discoloration.
